Purwakarta is a small town in the middle of West Java Province in Indonesia. It's about 80 km (48 miles) from Jakarta and about 70 km (42 miles) from Bandung. It's only 2 hours from Soekarno-Hatta Airport. I'm not sure that many of you've ever heard the name of this town, because only few places in this large country which are known by people from other countries, such as Jakarta, Bali, Yogyakarta, etc. However, I'll introduce my small town with many attracted places that you should visit if you come to Indonesia. It'll be a very good experience for you to come here and it woldn't make you disappoint, because Purwakarta has nice places with nice people.

1. Purwakarta Town Hall
It's the place of the town government working with some old and historical building. There is one building there called Gedung Negara which was built in 1854 during the Dutch colonial with European architectural style. You'll also find beautiful alun-alun (public square) with amazing fountains and flowers. Masjid Agung (The Great Mosque) Purwakarta is also here. All of them have been here since the 19th century.

2. Situ Buleud (Round Lake) Town Park
It is the landmark of Purwakarta. Called Buleud because the lake is round (Sunda = buleud) and quite spacious. The origins of Situ Buleud closely related to the displacement event Karawang regency capital from Wanayasa to Sindangkasih, created between 1830-1831. Situ Buleud created with the purpose: as a source of water for the benefit of the government and society. But there is also used as recreation area for the community.

3. Gedung Keresidenan (Residency Building)
The construction of this building is closely related to Purwakarta status as the capital of Karawang residency. Residency building occupies a wide area. The main building is in the middle of the page. In front of the main building there is a garden, as well as in the left and right side. Architecture of the main building took Indische Empire style. The shape and style of the building is similar to Pakuan Building (former of Priangan Residency House) in Bandung.

4. Gedung Kembar (The Twin) and Purwakarta Railway Station
Simplicity of this European architectural style building still will enchant anyone who saw it, including you. In a magnificent nuance once glorious, it's used as the headquarters of the BKR (Rows of People's Security) at the time of the revolution. As the name implies, the Twin is two buildings with the same shape and located side by side. The buildings was allegedly founded in the second half of the 19th century AD, after the city established Purwakarta, as capital of Karawang residency (since 1854).
Purwakarta railway station was built during the Dutch colonial between 1881-1884 and inaugurated on December 27, 1902, is located right after Gedung Kembar. This building has a distinctive architecture in accordance with its function. Until recently, the building has not changed. If you have the opportunity to visit the station, do not forget to bring your camera because there are some great angles for photography.

5. Purwakarta Down Town
Purwakarta also has amazing streets for just walking or shopping. It's also attracted for just watching or taking pictures with some beautiful statues there.

6. Bendungan Jatiluhur (Jatiluhur Dam)
Jatiluhur Lake located about 9 km from the center of Purwakarta. Jatilahur Dam is the biggest dam in Indonesia. The dam was named by the government as Ir. H. Juanda, with panoramic lake covering an area of 8,300 ha. This dam was built in 1957 by a French contractor, with the available potential water 12.9 billion m3/year and it's the first multipurpose dam in Indonesia. In addition to functioning as hydropower with the largest runoff system in the world, the region has many recreational facilities, such as hotels and bungalows, bar and restaurant, tennis courts, billiard, camping area, swimming pool with water slide, meeting room, recreational facilities, water sports, playground, and other facilities. Water sports and recreational facilities such as kayaking, windsurfing, boat cruises, water skiing, boating and many more. In the waters of the lake there are also floating net fish farming. We also can see the Earth Satellite Station which is managed by PT. Indosat Tbk.

Situ Wanayasa, is a lake (Situ) with an area of about 7 acres, surrounded by trees, green hills, clean water and a natural lake. Has a height of about 600 meters above sea level with an average air temperature ranges between 17 to 20 degrees Celsius.
There are infrastructure, electricity, telephone and public transport to improve access and convenience for visitors. 9. Cipurut Waterfall
Cipurut waterfall at the foot of Mount Burangrang and included in the Nature Reserve of Mount Burangrang area so that the management is still done by the Natural Resources Conservation Center Jabar I with field operations assisted by the Wanayasa and Sumurugul Village .Waterfall conditions are generally divided into three parts: the main waterfall located on the edge of the cliff with ± 25 m height, and the other two are more gentle waterfall that is usually used by visitors as a place to skate. 10. Sentra Peuyeum Bendul (Peuyeum = Fermented Cassava)
"Peuyeum" is fermented made from cassava. The food is popular in Java and is known all over the place, ranging from West Java to East Java. Involves making fermented cassava as substrate and fermented yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) were smeared on tubers that have been peeled. There are two techniques that result in the manufacture of normal fermented, the wet and soft, and dry fermented, the more delicious and can be hung without damage. Dry fermented is popular in northern Priangan (Purwakarta and Subang), and are known as unique souvenirs of the region (known as peuyeum, as traded by hanging.).
Besides peuyeum, Bendul also provides a variety of snacks for souvenirs light, ranging from sweets, hui Cilembu, crackers, colenak, Simping Purwakarta, and various other foods that could be for a souvenir or gift.
11. Sentra Keramik Plered (Plered Ceramic Center)
In Plered, Purwakarta West Java we can find many unique ceramics and deserve to take home as souvenirs. The shape is diverse and relatively inexpensive.Plered ceramic industrial district is located in the southern region of Purwakarta. Plered is a district which has an area of 36.79 square miles with a population of 54.337 inhabitants. Small industrial district is located in the village of Anjun, Citeko, and Pamoyanan. Plered has long been recognized as a regional producer of ceramics. From this place, various shapes and sizes made of ceramic. There are small, medium to large with a variety of different designs .Plered ceramic manufacture is already underway and is expected to begin hereditary since 1904. Initially, the surrounding community made of red clay ceramics including pottery and home furnishings. But , the craft is capable of development into a separate source of income for local communities .Along the way seemed lined ceramic ornaments that attract attention.
